Can GradeXpert run on Apple Macs or Linux?

GradeXpert is designed to run on Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7. It will not run natively on Apple Macs or Linux. However, by using Windows emulator software (for the Apple Mac, try VMWare or Parallels, for Linux, try VirtualBox or WINE). These are external links and GradeXpert takes no responsibility for the content on these websites.

Please test the free GradeXpert version on your Mac before purchasing a GradeXpert license, as we do not guarantee that all the Windows emulators will work.

Can I import my existing student list and results into GradeXpert?

Yes. Your existing student list or results list must first be saved in a CSV filewhich can easily be created in Microsoft Excel by selecting "Save As" and selecting a "CSV" file. Check the GradeXpert online help for the format required for CSV import files. You can also import your student results and student photos.

Can I set up my own assessments or do I have to use the assessment types that are already set up in GradeXpert?

Yes. You can set up an unlimited number of your own assessments or tests for which to record results. GradeXpert includes a number of pre-defined assessments already available for you to record results for. These can all be deleted or modified and you can create your own list from scratch.

How do I reassign students to their new grades and classes at the beginning of each year?

There are three methods of reassigning students:

1. Import an updated student list containing student ID, student name and their new grade and class - this will automatically reassign all those students to their new classes. This is the easiest and most accurate method.
Ensure any new class names are set up in GradeXpert before importing. Students already in the database will be automatically reassigned to their new classes as shown in the CSV import file, and students who are new to the school will be added to the database. Ensure you first archive students who have left the school at the end of the previous year, which will free up the licensed number of students.

2. Use the Reassign Students function in GradeXpert to reassign all students from one class, grade and year to a new class, grade and year.

3. Update each individual student's current grade, class and year manually. (This is the long way around!)

I want some teachers only to be able to view certain results. Can GradeXpert do this?

Yes, each assessment you set up can be assigned a required access level. When you create a new user (i.e. teacher) you assign an access level to that user. Only users with the required access level can view results for those assessments. You can also limit access to specific classes, assessment groups, student indicators and program functions. Go to Settings > Users to do this in GradeXpert.

I want some teachers only to be able to access certain classes. Can GradeXpert do this?

Yes. Each user (teacher) can be assigned to one or more classes (or all classes) as well as specific teaching areas, e.g. Literacy, Numeracy, History etc. Users can further be assigned to specific student indicators, e.g. ESL, Reading Recovery etc., so that they can only see students with those indicators attached.

How do I add more students to my license?

If you want to increase the maximum number of licensed students during the year or at the start of the following year, contact us and include details of your school name and how many students in total you want to be able to manage. We'll invoice you for the difference and upon payment we'll send you a new registration code for the new number of licensed students.

I'm having problems running GradeXpert on Windows Vista and Windows 7.

If GradeXpert he program shows "permission denied" or similar messages when starting, or you cannot always synchronise your offline data the next day, his is usually a Windows permissions issue. GradeXpert requires full read and write access to the C:\Program Files\GradeXpert folder, as local settings are stored here. Follow the instructions in this document (PDF) to ensure you have correct permissions set up.
